I recently purchased this watch after a bit of deliberation (wasn't sure about the negative display being "ok" to read in daily use). All I can comment is, yes, it is more difficult to read than a traditional positive display, but not so difficult as to become a nuisance once you are accustomed to it. It was made for a certain "look" as far as styling and it achieves that look quite well. The EL backlight allows for easy viewing if the lighting is low or pitch black when looking for the time.
Casio build quality is always excellent for such inexpensive products, and just knowing this watch is built to take abuse and is water resistant is good peace of mind. I've had G-shocks that are over 14 years old still going strong----the only maintenance being battery changes and pressure testing to ensure continued water resist.
Buy one with confidence, and the bonus is, the military "stealth" treatment looks pretty cool!

Actually Kind of Cool - Enzo - ID
As the other reviewers pointed out, this watch is actually kind of cool. I ordered it because I don't like huge watches and I thought the reverse display would be cool and it is. It is a little hard to see in low light but just use the back light and it's fine. I ordered two watches at once thinking I would keep the one I liked best. The other watch was a Casio solar atomic Mudman. I like it too but I am keeping this one.
I have question though. There is a setting on this watch that isn't covered in the manual. There is a set of numbers that goes from 0 to 99 and I have no idea what they are for. Anyone?
Unique looking G Shock - M. Perry - Florida
I will keep this review short. I just received this model in the mail, and it looks just like the pictures, only better in person. The reverse display is awesome, and I like the "stealthy" look of the watch. The buttons and clasp are both black ion plated, which is a nice touch. It's just like my dw5600 only its totally blacked out, and you could wear this watch with anything. The band is also thicker than its dw56001v cousin, and that'll make it more durable. The whole military look is very unique, and I recommend this watch to anyone looking for something "different" in the g-shock line. You can't go wrong with any of the military inspired G's, they just look awesome.

Looks exactly like the picture, perfect fit for all sizes, and its hot. Perfect to wear on all occasions, and I'm pretty sure Justin Bieber has the same one, haha.
Great beater watch - Mike Gorge - Durham, NC United States
Great understated beater watch for all purposes. At least it feels indestructible and the all black has a no-nonsense but somewhat stylish feel to it. I love to wear it sometimes as a change-up to my dress watches for work - gives a nice touch to a suit and tie ensemble without being the old cluncky Timex Ironman you see your boss wear sometimes to prove that he doesn't need a fancy watch to exude status.
